However, locals say the body is that of a woman, the Geelong Advertiser reports.

‘Police are currently responding to reports of suspected human remains located on the coast near Anglesea,’ a Victoria police spokesman said.

‘The remains will need to be examined by a pathologist to establish the identity of the person and cause of death.’

The discovery comes 11 days after Ms Curry, 43, a keen runner, vanished from Aireys Inlet, just 10km away.

Ms Curry, of Surrey Hills, Melbourne, was last seen at her family’s holiday home on Aireys Street at about 10pm on September 30.

She had watched the AFL Grand Final with neighbours at her $1million property earlier in the day while her husband David and three children were at the game in Melbourne.

Police have said they believe it was likely she disappeared while out running on the morning of October 1 but have not ruled out foul play.

Since then, search teams and volunteers have scoured bushland and jogging tracks near her Surrey Hills home and the holiday home in Aireys Inlet.

They have looked along clifftops and from the air while divers have searched the water.

The search was scaled back last week after five days,
