Xbox One Exclusive Sunset Overdrive Could Be Coming To PC

Two years later, Insomniac said it really wanted to bring Sunset Overdrive to PC, but noted that it was publisher Microsoft’s decision to make. Part of the reason why Insomniac decided to make it an Xbox One-exclusive in the first place was because Microsoft reportedly allowed the studio to own the rights to the Sunset Overdrive franchise.

It appears even despite that, Microsoft gets to call the shots on whether or not Sunset Overdrive is released on PC.

Sunset Overdrive, the over-the-top third-person shooter for Xbox One made by the developer of the PS4 exclusive Spider-Man, looks like it is finally releasing on PC. A rating for a PC edition of the game recently popped up in the ESRB database, while a listing has also appeared in Steam’s database (but is not yet visible on the site’s public-facing pages). Back in May, Korea’s ratings board posted a rating for a PC edition, according to Gematsu.

All of this evidence seems to suggest that it’s only a matter of time before an official announcement is made about Sunset Overdrive for PC. In September 2014, just a month before Sunset Overdrive launched for Xbox One, Insomniac said it had no plans to bring the game to PC, but teased that it hadn’t ruled it out, either.

Insomniac has said it would like to make Sunset Overdrive 2, but at least as of October 2017, the studio had not found a partner for it.

Insomniac’s latest game was the PS4 exclusive Spider-Man, which it developed in partnership with Sony and Marvel. The game sold really well and was generally adored by critics. The studio is currently working on the AR game Seedling for Magic Leap and a VR game called Stormland.

If Microsoft is to announce Sunset Overdrive for PC, one possible venue is the company’s upcoming X018 event in Mexico City. The event takes place on November 10, so keep checking back with GameSpot for more.

Sunset Overdrive is wacky and wonderful, and you can currently get it pretty cheap on Xbox One. Alternatively, it’s free with Xbox Game Pass on Xbox One.
