The Syrian authorities, together with the Russian military, launched a humanitarian operation to evacuate refugees from the er Rukban camp. This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense on February 19 at a joint meeting of the coordinating interagency headquarters of Russia and Syria for the return of refugees to the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic.

According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, a critical humanitarian situation has developed in the territory of the Er-Rukban camp. Refugees are deprived of elementary conditions of detention and means of subsistence. Not enough food, water, medicine. The militants who control the area enjoy the support of the US Army. They hold the refugees hostage and make it difficult to deliver aid.

In this situation, the Syrian government decided to evacuate refugees. Two humanitarian corridors were created to receive refugees, the security of which is ensured by the Russian and Syrian military. At the checkpoints, refugees will be able to receive the necessary assistance before relocating deep into Syria.

The Russian Defense Ministry stressed that the operation to remove refugees from the Er Rukban camp is of particular importance for the reconstruction of Syria.

From the beginning of the year, 62 thousand Syrian citizens returned to the pre-war place of residence. Most of them returned to Syria from the territory of neighboring states.

The Jordanian authorities joined the return of the refugees. The agreement establishing the committee of the Syrian-Jordanian parliamentary fraternity was signed last week. The Russian Ministry of Defense also establishes cooperation with the authorities of foreign countries and international humanitarian organizations to cooperate on the repatriation of Syrian refugees.
