Snapchat context cards let you access services like Uber

Snapchat has teamed up with several online services to enrich its platform, introducing a new feature called ‘Context Cards’.

Select Snaps now show a ‘more’ button that links users to information related to the locations pictured, including opening hours or contact details.

The feature can also help you take simple actions such as booking a ride with Uber or reserving a table through Bookatable or Open Table.

HOW TO FIND CONTEXT CARDS

To find context cards, swipe up on any Snaps that says ‘more’ at the bottom.

These include Snaps tagged with the white, venue-specific, geofilters or that have been submitted to the firm’s public ‘our story’ collections, which appear in snap map or search.

The first context card that appears contaisn basic information like the name of the place, category of venue – eg department store or restaurant – and partner’s rating.

Additional context cards may include: reviews from critics and customers; directions to the venue; opening hours; contact numbers; rides from ride-sharing services; reservations at restaurants; websites for more information; more Snaps from around that area.

Context Cards are available in the UK, US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand for Snapchatters on iOS and Android from today.

Country specific versions for the rest of the world are expected in the near future.

The feature contains reviews, maps, tips and more information about whatever you’re watching, powered by content from partners like Tripadvisor, Foursquare, Michelin and Goop.

The Context Cards displayed vary depending on the type of venue and the details available about the location.

Snap says it aims to always show you the most relevant information.

Some locations also have stories integrated into their Context Cards to make it easy to dive in and watch more Snaps from the places that interest you.

These Stories are made up of Snaps submitted by members of the Snapchat community to the firm’s ‘our story’ collections while near these location, as well as imagery from partner organisations.

A spokesman for Snap said: ‘With Context Cards, Snaps become the visual starting point for learning more about the world empowering our community to get more information about anything that catches their eye.

‘Billions of Snaps created each day on Snapchat power products like stories, search, snap map and now, context cards.

‘As we learn more about how to improve Context Cards, we will be adding more partners and additional information.’
