A Dutch amateur player is the latest to make a play for the ‘worst miss of all time’.
Dennis van Duinen of Harkemase Boys, who play at Holland’s highest level of the amateur game, is the newest culprit, after blazing high over the bar when it very definitely was easier to score.
Van Duinen does all the hard work during his side’s clash with Capelle, pickingthe ball in midfield, driving towards goal and bundling his way past the visiting goalkeeper to leave himself standing in front of an empty net, with a simple finish required.

But, somehow, the midfielder managed to blaze his effort over the top of the crossbar
The 20-year-old has other ideas, though, as he proceeds to blast the ball high over the bar and into the empty standing area behind the goal at the club’s De Bosk home ground.
He can’t believe what he’s just done, clutching his head with his hands and looking up to the sky, all while letting a wry smile sneak over his face.
His team-mates share his reaction, shocked their team-mate failed to find the net when presented with the easiest chance possible under no pressure whatsoever.

Van Duinen’s miss came at a time when his side led their opponents 2-0, with the midfielder give the chance to put the contest out of sight, but instead he produced an effort to rival the likes of former Liverpool forward Ronnie Rosenthal and ex-Dortmund man Jakub Blaszczykowski for the worst miss ever.
However, goals from Olaf van der Sande, Sandim Avdic and a stoppage time winer from Omar Gomez Shee secured victory for Capelle, making Van Duinen’s miss all the worse.
